Brief

Durban has been overshadowed by negativity. We hear daily accounts of corruption, theft, hijacking drug abuse and many other distasteful occurrences.

ARTLAB has powered an initiative called GOOD VIBE DURBAN which aims to spread the message of hope and positivity.  The task was to visually communicate positivity through a t-shirt and poster design.

solution

In this design I wanted to celebrate the people and of Durban. Durban is mainly dominated by the AmaZulu. In my brainstorm and research, the common word to describe the Zulu that popped up was arrogance, stubbornness, honour, dignity and I concluded that the Zulu are a proud and strong-willed group of people, that is deeply rooted to the culture and history.   To celebrate the culture and the city   to show and communicate the pride which the people of Durban have for their city and culture.

The figure I chose to represent is Shaka Zulu. He represents the pride the Zulu people have for their culture and the determination, self-worth the people of durn have.  I added a call-to-action Woza Durban to call all people Durban to come together and do what they can for the city to thrive and cut the negativity.

I kept my design simple. I used natural brown, yellow, orange and blue. Those were the colours I felt that represented Durban.
